How and when was Otzi discovered?
The iceman was located in the Otzal Alps, Austrian-Italian border, frozen in a glacier. Otzi the iceman was discovered on September 19, 1991 by a man and a woman. Simon and Erika Helmut were the first two people to discover otzi’s body whilst they were on a hiking trip and then the two decided to stray off the recommended path hoping to find a short cut, then whilst Simon was walking ahead of his wife Erica he saw something sticking out of the ice. At first glance they figured it was just garbage that someone had littered but as they moved closer they realised it was a corpse frozen in the glacier. After the discovery of Otzi became public other people came forward claiming they found Otzi before the Simons but after investigations, the Italian Courts concluded that the Simons were the Iceman’s true discoverers. |
